Still more on the replication interval in R8 Desktop Settings

This is a continuation of entries about the ND8 desktop policy issue that several people are running into.

The R8 desktop policy settings document added a fields to allow administrators to set default intervals for normal replication and high priority replication.

These fields can be found in the $clientpreferences subform.  They are:

They are both set to a default of 60 when you save the desktop settings document. This is because the interval field is set to a default of 60 minutes.

There probably should have been an "If" statement surrounding the decision to save the at the default of 60 minutes, but there isn't.  Like, if you want to set an interval, the default is 60 minutes.  But there is not.  Therefore, regardless of whether or not the administrator wants to control the replication interval though the policy, it is set to a 60 minute interval when the document is saved.  It doesn't seem to matter if the client saving the document is an 8.0.x client or a 7.x.x client, the default is set at 60 minutes.   It happens on the server in the address book.

It also doesn't seem to be set at 60 for the R8 client though, just for the 7.x and below.

You cannot go into the designer client and set the defaults for LocAllInterval or LocAllInterval_Hi to a blank because field validation checking doesn't permit it when you are actually creating a desktop settings document.

I've shopped this around on Notes Net and don't seem to have enough access in the business partner db to do anything significant with the information.  This is most assuredly a serious issue for anyone who has implemented policies.  It means that you need to be careful that no one edits a policy when the address book is at Release 7 until all of your clients have been upgraded to R8.

I've been wrong plenty of times.  Please, don't take my word for any of this.  Test it yourself and tell me if I'm being an idiot.

I have been following this with great interest, thanks for sharing all the details and digging so deep. I have not run into this scenareo yet but it is only a matter of time I am sure. You sharing this will help me from loosing hair in the near future!

I'm guessing the R7 client doesn't understand the LocAllEnabled field but does understand the LocAllInterval field. So basically if the interval field has anything the R7 client will apply it regardless of the LocAllEnabled field setting.

I suspect an agent that removes the LocAllInterval and LocAllInterval_HI fields completely from the desktop settings document would fix it.
