Hard drive crash on my laptop and concerts

Hard drive crashed on my laptop.

Dell had a replacement at my office in less than 18 hours.  Recovery drive contained a Vista 64 install.  I set that up in 2 or three hours and then overwrote and restored a Windows 7 64 system drive from a year ago.  I know.  Should have taken more backups.

Loaded up the old drive on the laptop in save mode on the laptop.  Although the drive was dying, I used xcopy commands to get back all the data between October 2011 and the day of the restore.

System is now back on line.  Windows 7 64 bit with all my stuff.

You know, we in IT are our own worst enemies with personal system backups.  We are such idiots.  Seriously.  Personal backups are the guilty pleasure consultants with personal systems that are unmanaged system by a business.

The denouement:

Sometimes you need to rise above day to day to establish your future survivability.  Pick up a3 TB drive to backup your professional gear.  In the end, you save days worth of reinstalling.  Use Windows 7 ultimate and Vistal ultimate as those are the versions that will let you to total system images to a local drive.

I was so impressed by the level of recovery I have experienced that I vowed full systembackups for my laptop once a month and data backups every two weeks.  We'll see how that New Year's resolution works out.  LOL.

As far as concerts go, here is what we've seen and are going to see this year.  It might be the most number of concerts we seen in a year.

Past:
April 18th - Of Montreal at Union Transfer, Philadelphia PA
May 3rd - Andrew Bird at Union Transfer, Philadelphia PA
May 12th - Regina Spektor at Tower Theater, Upper Darby PA
June 13th - RadioHead at Susquehanna Bank Center, Camden NJ
July 29th - Sigur Ros at Mann Music Center, Philadelphia PA
Sept. 16th - Bon Iver at Mann Music Center, Philadelphia PA

Coming up:
Oct. 3rd - Animal Collective - at Mann Music Center, Philadelphia PA
Nov. 8th - Tame Impala - at Union Transfer, Philadelphia PA
And I thnk that the Antlers are soon at UT and so is the Bend Folds Five at the Tower.  Tickets are in the pouch.

It's good to be alive.  Much better than a dirt nap.

Life changes so fast, sometimes you have to stop and smell your fingers.
